Oklahoma public discussion of 3D printing

Oklahoma lawmakers and researchers have discussed 3D-printed housing and construction in public forums; this Facebook reel is one example of that technology conversation, including the 2024 interim study on 3D-printed construction.

In 2024, my staff and I brought together industry experts from around the country including Dr. Tyler Ley from Oklahoma State to study the future of 3D-printed construction.

Immediate benefits

  • Strength

3D-printed concrete walls can be designed for solid, lasting structures.

  • Speed

Printing large parts of a building can help construction move faster than some traditional steps.

Short-term benefits

  • Energy efficiency

Well-designed concrete walls can help a building hold temperature better, which may lower energy use over time.

  • Reduced waste

Printing places material where it is needed, which can mean less scrap on the job site.

Long-term benefits

  • Durability

Concrete construction is built for a long service life with careful maintenance.
